In view of the imminent situation that arises in the world due to COVID-19, last March, our INSER clinics, taking advantage of the prevention measures provided by the National Government of Colombia and the scientific fertility associations, closed their doors in order to guarantee the protection and safety, both of patients and medical and care team.
After staying at home, contributing to the control of the curve of infected people in our country, and analyzing different aspects related to the possible risk presented by patients in reproductive treatments, it has been concluded that It is possible to resume our work taking into account that:
- There is no scientific evidence that confirms a high risk of contagion for patients in the midst of fertility treatments or transfers
- There is no scientific evidence regarding the danger in pregnant women or complications in pregnancies infected by the virus
- There are no recorded cases of mother-baby transmission of the virus
In the face of scientific evidence and, under all the protection and biosecurity measures necessary for the operation of entities providing health services, With joy we confirm that we will continue to accompany all those families who dream of making the dream of being parents come true.
If you are an INSER patient or want to start your journey, please take into account the following information:
Our INSER clinics will contact you to provide you with information regarding our reopening. During this call we will schedule a follow-up appointment if you require it or we will give you all the indications you must take into account to continue your treatment.
Scheduling a Fertility Consultation is taking the first step to start the search for your pregnancy, so it is essential that you schedule an appointment with our specialists to reach a comprehensive diagnosis and thus help you make the dream of being parents come true.
To consult you can do it in two ways:
Virtual consultation: during the pandemic period we recommend that you schedule your appointment virtually; Telemedicine is one of the tools that has allowed us to continue to accompany all families who are in fertility processes in a comprehensive way.
It is important that you keep in mind that this modality includes all the services of a face-to-face consultation, which allow us to reach a comprehensive diagnosis of your situation (second meeting with the specialist for review of exams, appointment for emotional accompaniment)
Face-to-face consultation: if you prefer a physical consultation, you can schedule the appointment with our specialists taking into account the biosafety protocols that we must abide by for patient-doctor contact.
For this consultation, it is important that you guarantee that you have not suffered symptoms associated with COVID-19. Otherwise, we will not be able to attend to you for everyone’s safety.
For INSER, the most important thing is your safety and that of our work team, which is why, before opening the doors of our centres again, we take different protection measures that will help us to ensure their well-being. Here are some of these:
- Reorganization of our work teams and schedules to guarantee the care of our patients with the necessary resources.
- Application of a telephone survey to the patient to rule out symptoms associated with COVID-19 before their visit to INSER.
- General cleaning and disinfection of the offices and common areas according to the established prevention protocol.
- Acquisition of personal protection elements for all personnel according to risk of exposure.
- Temperature taking for INSER staff and patients entering our clinics.
During your visit to our clinics for consultations, you should take into account the following:
- You must attend the consultation unaccompanied
- Only have your identification documents and exams available if required. Avoid wearing accessories such as rings, earrings, watches, necklaces, bags or purses.
- You must bring your hair up
- The use of face masks is mandatory
- You should not wear gloves
- Hand washing and disinfection should be constant. You will find points enabled for this process.
- Payment must be made by card or transfer. We will not receive cash
- When you arrive at the center, you must allow your temperature to be taken. If you have 37.7°C or higher, entry is restricted
- Taking into account the social distancing guidelines, it is necessary that before going to the consultation, you remain in your car in case another patient is in the waiting room. We recommend that you arrive at the assigned time and do not anticipate or delay.
- The day before the appointment, you will be given a telephone survey to rule out symptoms associated with COVID-19. On the day of the consultation, you must validate this information and sign the authentication document
- Our staff will use all the protection and biosecurity elements to provide you with safety and security during your visit to INSER
Before starting fertility treatment, our specialists will make a comprehensive diagnosis of your situation to determine if it is appropriate to start a short-term treatment without any risk.
It is important that you keep in mind that people who have a history of cardiovascular diseases, chronic high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung disease, immunosuppression, among others, should be treated more rigorously due to the imminent risk they may suffer from contagion to the virus.
Currently, the evidence on the effects of the virus on early pregnancy is limited because it is a young disease and to date no cases have been reported in this type of population. Taking into account the above, it is understood that there is no vertical transmission of the disease (intrauterine transmission or during childbirth) nor is there any relationship with the transmission of the virus by the excretion of breast milk.
To date, there is no scientific evidence to show that semen, eggs or embryos carry the virus and can be transmitted through procedures.
COVID-19 infection occurs through contact in the respiratory tract, therefore, there are no cases of gamete infection in assisted reproduction treatments.
On the other hand, it is important to note that our medical and laboratory staff have all the biosafety protection and gamete handling to guarantee safety in the procedures.
Yes, our emotional accompaniment area is willing to provide you with all the support you require during this time of uncertainty and fear. Do not hesitate to contact us to schedule your virtual psychology consultation.
If you have any concerns about your process or want to start your journey, contact us. We are here to accompany you and take care of you!
