Going through perinatal grief: From pain to love

Angela Maria Muñoz, from learning, shares her life testimony after living the loss of her son. With resilience and hope, she teaches us to transform pain into love.

Founder and Executive Director of JIC Foundation for the support of gestational and neonatal death (Colombia).

In 2016 she faced the death of her son Juan Isaac at 7 days old, an experience that led her to create in 2018 JIC Foundation, where she provides support, information and accompaniment to women and families in Colombia and Latin America, who face the grief of the death of their baby in gestation (spontaneous or voluntary for medical reasons) or within the first months after birth; It facilitates the mutual aid groups “Dads of Heaven”, “Circle of Love and Transformation for Moms of Heaven”, “Circle of Grieving Grandparents” and “Circle of Pregnancy after Loss”; promotes humanization in health care in cases of gestational and neonatal grief; and promotes public policies and legislative initiatives related to the rights of bereaved families.

As a trainer, since 2018 she has directed the virtual course “Health care tools in the face of gestational or neonatal death” and is co-director of the Diploma “Doula in perinatal grief”. She has been a professor at the Faculty of Nursing of the National University of Colombia with the workshop Humanization in health care in the face of gestational and neonatal death, a teacher in the Diploma in Affective Parenting, and a lecturer in several symposia and congresses on the subject. Member of the Bereavement Working Group of the International Stillbirth Alliance (ISA).
