How is the application of medications in reproductive treatments?

When you receive a diagnosis of infertility and start treatment, one of the most important aspects, and on which the effectiveness of the process depends to a large extent, is the application of medications in the times assigned by the specialist.

Undoubtedly, the administration of hormones through intramuscular or subcutaneous injections is one of the great fears that patients face when receiving the instructions to apply their medication at home. However, with accompaniment and support between the couple, this process can be simpler and more bearable.

Below, we share some tips that will help you understand what medication administration is like and what you should take into account to do it from home.

Administering medication from home is safe after receiving advice and accompaniment from the INSER nursing staff.

You can go to our team as many times as necessary or until you feel safe doing it from home.

It is important to note that most medications are applied subcutaneously, which allows them to be administered easily.

The application of the medication can be done individually or with the support of someone. It is not required that someone else carry out the process, you just have to find a way to feel safer and calmer.

If you decide to do it accompanied, keep in mind that the person who will apply the medication must receive advice from our team to have a detailed explanation of the step by step.

For the application of medication at home you must have:

  • Medication dosage recommended by the specialist
  • Cotton
  • Alcohol
  • Aseptic and hand disinfection area
  • Hospital waste garbage bag (red)

Each medication has specific indications that we will share with you when you buy it in the pharmacy.

Some require a specific temperature, so you’ll need to store them in the fridge, and others just need to be kept away from the heat, so you can store it in your closet or a cool area.

*For medications that require low temperatures, we will share a refrigerator so that you can move around and thus take them to the place you need.

Don’t panic and ask us! At INSER we have a team ready to accompany you at every step so that you feel safe and can consult as a priority if you have any setbacks.

In this regard, before starting your treatment, our specialists will tell you what the normal symptoms are and what can be an alert. There are situations that can arise because of the medication (such as light bleeding), however, they are not to be scared or think that it was due to a bad procedure in the administration of the medication.

It is very important that you keep in mind the application schedule for each medication, although there are some that do not have complications due to short time delays, there are others that require punctuality and compliance with schedules. Talk to your doctor to understand how each formula is handled.

Need.

REMEMBER! The most important thing is that in the middle of the process you follow your routine and enjoy your life.
