The spermogram is a detailed test that evaluates the quality and quantity of sperm. It is a fundamental test to assess male fertility and determine the most appropriate reproductive treatment for each case.

What is a spermogram?

A spermogram is a fundamental test in evaluating male fertility. Through semen examination, key parameters are assessed, including volume, sperm count, concentration, motility, and morphology. These results help identify abnormalities that may be affecting the ability to achieve pregnancy and guide treatment strategies.

This test is essential for all couples experiencing difficulties conceiving and for men who wish to understand their reproductive health.

The study evaluates multiple semen parameters. The primary characteristics are interpreted according to WHO criteria, including volume, concentration, total sperm count, morphology, motility, and sperm vitality. Additionally, it assesses factors such as pH, liquefaction, and the presence of leukocytes or microorganisms.

It is recommended to maintain sexual abstinence for two to five days before the test to obtain more accurate results. Additionally, avoiding alcohol and tobacco in the days leading up to the test is advised.
