Seven essential books to learn more about the subject of infertility

When a couple knows that they have a problem when it comes to conceiving a child, it is normal that they want to immerse themselves in the issue that afflicts them to find solutions to this important challenge that life presents. For this reason, there are many men and women who have been interested in this topic and have therefore written important books about the universe of infertility.

In addition to films, series, documentaries and journalistic reports, infertility has been addressed from literature in order to publicize not only the research and advances on this important topic in the field of human health, but also from the emotions that overwhelm a couple when they know that their long-awaited child is not going to arrive as quickly as they thought.

Some of the books you can consult about infertility are:

  1. The World’s Greatest Wish: Luciana Montero, Argentinian author of this book, tells how she faced her infertility diagnosis when she wanted to have her second child. After a year of unsuccessful searching, Luciana narrates how her experience was when she went to the specialist to try to understand her case, which had such an impact on her that she decided to interview nine other women with conditions similar to hers to write this book. The World’s Greatest Desire, published by Paidós, gave rise to an important documentary called “Baby On Demand“, currently presented by the Nat Geo channel.
  2. May a miracle break me: according to Maru Pesuggi, the author of this book from the Cien Lunas publishing house, the idea of having to seek help to achieve the pregnancy she wanted with all her heart and that at first glance could be easy to achieve never crossed her mind. Hence, she calls herself “An infertility warrior” because she had to face hundreds of medical consultations to try to hold her own child in her arms. The Argentinian author also has a page of the same name where she tells her experience on her long road to infertility.
  3. Getting out of the labyrinth: the Argentine Conceiving Association, founded by Estela Chardón and Isabel Rolando, addresses in this book the issue of infertility from the typical questions asked by couples with infertility problems, and the lessons they obtained after approaching hundreds of infertile couples in their country and helping them face their diagnosis. The book is from Editorial Cien Lunas.
  4. Non-mothers: the point of view of women who do not want or cannot become mothers is the main theme of this book in which the author María Fernández Miranda, gives voice to those who are tired of the social pressure imposed on them to have a child despite their own biological or personal problems. The text is from Plaza & Janés.
  5. Mom by donation: Estela Chardón tells us about her experience of becoming a mother through egg donation, a treatment that many women must go to when their own chances of conceiving a child have been ruled out by science. Chardón, who is also a psychologist specializing in Infertility, tells in her book (published by Cien Lunas) the stories of other couples who went through the same situation, to try to change the perspective on this issue, which still generates taboos among people who want to have a baby through assisted reproduction.
  6. Don’t throw in the towel, make yourself a nice turban: Marian Cisterna tells us the story of Cali, a woman who, like many, wants to have a child, but does not get it naturally. This story shows how the support of her husband and her crazy family gives her a boost to survive in the complex world of infertility. In this book, from Mira Editores, the author compiles her own ghosts of infertility and how she overcame this stage of her life with positive and joyful thoughts.
  7. Looking for a Baby: Inser’s gynecologist specializing in Human Reproduction, Dr. Juan Luis Giraldo, provides in this book published by Penguin Random House, very useful and simple information to couples who face their own infertility every day. In this important text, a pioneer on the subject in Colombia, Giraldo presents the keys to living the process of assisted reproduction in the most calm and informed way possible, with a very simple and legible language for all people who want to know more about the world of infertility and assisted reproduction treatments. In addition, Giraldo presents testimonies of couples who went through different treatments to achieve the greatest joy of their lives: being parents.
