The first thing to keep in mind is that there is a big difference between having twins and twins, although in both cases we are talking about two babies who develop simultaneously in the same gestational period.

Meanwhile in a twin pregnancy, the woman has an ovulation of more than one egg that when fertilized, form two or more embryos that grow in different placentas, which is why their characteristics may be different, even their sex.
In the first case, growth is interdependent, while in the second it is independent.
Risks of a Twin or Twin Pregnancy
The idea of having a twin pregnancy is very attractive. However, this type of pregnancy poses certain risks, both for the mother and her children. This is because a woman’s body is designed to conceive a single baby, when we have more, the risk of developing associated diseases such as hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, overweight, among others, increases.
For babies, the risk is that they will not be able to reach term, being born prematurely, without their organs having finished maturing.
The Chances of Twin Pregnancies
For all of the above, in the world of medicine and fertility, doctors do not recommend looking for a multiple pregnancy in a premeditated way. While it is true that fertility treatment can increase the chances of gestating twins, it is not something that is deliberately sought.
