Questions and answers about infertility with specialist Rodrigo Henao

Many couples are constantly questioning themselves about the reasons why they can’t have a child naturally. There are many concerns that address those people who start the search for a pregnancy without achieving it immediately, that is why at InSer we open a space to clarify all the doubts that a couple faces when more than a year passes and they cannot conceive, that they or have some pathologies that prevent them from looking for a baby naturally.

On this occasion, through a Facebook Live and a Live broadcast on Instagram, we talked about assisted reproduction with the doctor Rodrigo Henao Flórez, gynecologist specializing in Human Reproduction at INSER Pereira, who spoke about the main difficulties that couples go through when they are looking for a baby.

Some of the most frequently asked questions by patients were related to uterine fibroids, polycystic ovaries, tubal ligation, hypothyroidism, advanced age, problems with your partner’s semen, recurrent leakage, anovulation, among others.

After analyzing each of the questions, the specialist’s message was clear: each couple has a different condition that can determine, for better or worse, whether or not they can achieve a pregnancy, and this reality can only be known when you decide to go to a fertility consultation.   In this first consultation, the specialist analyzes the factors why a couple does not manage to get pregnant, in order to provide comprehensive advice and the best recommendations according to their own health conditions; In addition, the physiological processes related to each couple are analyzed to find the causes why they cannot get pregnant.

The specialist also reiterated that, only from a fertility consultation, it can be known if the woman’s reproductive system works in the correct way to achieve a pregnancy. Thus, in this first consultation, the search for a diagnosis based on the functioning of the ovaries, the permeability of the fallopian tubes, the anatomy of the uterus, among others, begins. In men, they study how the sperm are working, a process that can be known from a very common test called a spermogram.

Finally, the specialist reiterated that, when a couple has been looking for a baby naturally for a year without success, it is necessary to seek help from a fertility specialist. In addition, he reaffirmed that, contrary to what is thought, most couples with fertility problems manage to become parents after very simple treatments, also called low complexity treatments.
