According to the World Health Organization, cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According to figures from that entity, in 2012 14.1 million new cases were reported, causing 8.2 million deaths worldwide. By 2030, The number of new cases is expected to reach 23.6 million.
Despite the devastating figures, it is known that early diagnosis is a great ally in defeating this disease. Thanks to the advances in science in this area, cancer today is a disease with paths of hope, which is why Inser has its Supporting Dreams program, which is Aimed at all men and women who dream of starting a family, but who, due to their diagnosis, must go to egg or sperm cryopreservation to reach their goal after overcoming the great test of life that is cancer.
Since 2017, the Inser Human Fertility Institute has achieved, through its Supporting Dreams that more than 30 patients preserved their fertility in the face of a cancer diagnosis through the vitrification of semen or eggs. This novel technique protects the sex cells of cancer patients through a process of extraction and freezing and thus takes care of their fertility in the future, even when the drugs used in chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatments can damage the ovarian reserve in women or sperm production in men.
In the case of women, egg vitrification is performed through ovarian stimulation that seeks to increase the production of follicles in the ovary and then extract the mature eggs through a vaginal puncture. The captured cells will be frozen or vitrified in a laboratory and will be used again when the woman decides to become a mother through assisted reproduction treatment. In men, a semen sample is obtained that will be treated under the same standards in the laboratory and then used according to the patient’s needs.
Inser’s responsibility program focuses on preserving the fertility of those people who are going through this hard time in their lives. These patients will have treatment at cost, which makes these procedures quite favorable and hopeful for them.
