Is a virtual consultation as effective as a face-to-face appointment?

Telemedicine has become a great opportunity and facilitator in the area of health over the last few years. Moving from a physical consultation to a virtual one with the support of technology, has allowed us to cross borders and overcome barriers such as distance, enabling us to reach hundreds of patients who require immediate treatment or diagnosis within a short period of time.

There are many specialties that have joined this method of communication. However, this option was rare for those couples who wanted to schedule an appointment with a fertility specialist. The idea of seeing the doctor on a computer screen and generating an affective bond without the physical presence of the doctor turned out to be somewhat complex and difficult to assimilate.

However, with the change in social dynamics, telemedicine has become a great opportunity for those couples who have to consult a doctor and do not want to postpone their desire to become parents.

Below, we would like to share with you some of the ways in which we can help you to overcome any fear of a virtual consultation and encourage you to start the process in the best and safest way possible:

This is neither new nor experimental: at INSER we have been working virtually for more than 5 years. Our clinics have developed a virtual consultation model within the International Patients program for making a diagnosis and monitoring the foreign patient who cannot travel to our clinics before treatment; all monitoring is done via digital media.

The doctor assigned to your virtual consultation will be the same one who accompanies you throughout your process: at INSER we want you to establish trust with your specialist, so the doctor who connects with you from the first appointment will be the same one who is with you throughout the treatment. In addition, after the consultation, you will be able to establish direct communication with your doctor via email or Whatsapp.

The virtual consultation includes all the processes of a face-to-face consultation: virtuality is not an impediment to providing you with the comprehensive care that your process requires. With the support of audiovisual aids we can explain every detail of your diagnosis. In the virtual consultation, as in the face-to-face one, you have the right to:

  • A first virtual meeting with the specialist to start your diagnosis.
  • A second virtual or face-to-face appointment ( when required) for a review of the tests.
  • A virtual consultation for emotional support with our psychology team.
  • A virtual or face-to-face explanation ( if needed ) of your treatment and budget

You can be accompanied by your partner during the consultation: due to the current measures of social distancing, the admission of the couple to the consultation is restricted. With the virtual consultation you and your partner can connect with the doctor without any inconveniences. This will allow you to feel confident and clarify any concerns, whether they are of a female or male nature.

All the processes will be carried out through video calls. We would like to get to know you and for you to get to know us: every meeting with our fertility specialists, psychologists or patient care team will be held on digital platforms that allow us to get to know you and that create a sense of closeness between you and us. Seeing you, albeit virtually, will let us build a connection with you and your process.

At INSER, we are prepared to accompany you and offer you the best experience in your desire to become pregnant.
