Why Be a Donor?
Amid fertility treatments, various diagnoses may lead a family to decide to use a donor to achieve pregnancy. Beyond genetics, the desire to have a child and become parents prevails, prompting them to rely on a third person who will anonymously become their ally and partner.
Being a donor means being brave. It means giving happiness without knowing to whom, sharing something valuable with a family that will be eternally grateful and will cherish it for the rest of their lives.
How Can I Become a Donor?
Both men and women can become donors. The most important thing is to meet the requirements set by INSER to carry out the process.

- Be between 18 and 34 years old.
- Have no family history of hereditary, genetic, or infectious diseases.
- Have no personal or social history of risky behaviors that could lead to the transmission of infections.
- Have no direct ties to INSER clinics or be a first-degree relative of the Institution’s employees.
- Not be a sperm donor at another institution.
EGG DONORS – WOMEN

Will the family that adopts the eggs or sperm know the donor?
No, at INSER, the donor program operates under an anonymous and altruistic model. While the appropriate donor will be selected for each family based on medical requirements, the couple undergoing the treatment will not know the identity of the person who donated their gametes.
How is the process to donate gametes (eggs or sperm)?
To donate eggs or sperm, the first step is to contact INSER clinics to start the admission process. If accepted, the process continues with the following protocol:
- Consultation with a specialist
- Consultation with the psychology department
- Consultation with andrology (for men)
- Tests for infectious and genetic diseases
- Consultation with a geneticist
SPERM DONATION
For men, after being admitted to the donor program, a appointment will be scheduled for sample collection (via masturbation) at the INSER clinics.
EGG DONATION
For women, the process is more extensive as it initially requires ovulation induction through medication, followed by egg retrieval through an outpatient procedure.

Which families might need a donor to achieve pregnancy?
There are multiple reasons why a woman or man may need a donor to achieve pregnancy.
In the case of women, those who may opt for egg donation treatment are those who:
- Have lost their ovaries due to surgery or other reasons.
- Are carriers of a familial disease they do not wish to pass on to their children.
- Are nearing menopause.
- Have experienced conception failures due to ovarian factors.
On the other hand, men who need to resort to sperm donation are those who:
- Have difficulty obtaining a seminal sample for assisted reproduction treatments.
- Show progressive deterioration due to known or unknown causes of sperm characteristics.
- Have extremely low sperm counts that make it advisable to accumulate sperm from various ejaculations.
