We know that traveling to another country to undergo medical treatment can sometimes be complicated. In this section we give you more information about the cities where our centers are located so that your trip to Colombia being more comfortable, quiet and efficient for you and your companions.

Bogotá

If you need to go to the city of Bogota in the next few days to get a fertility treatment, our recommendations for you to have a safe stay are:

  • Bogotá is the capital of the country, and has an international airport for travelers S coming to town. You need to have your papers in order (passport, identity card, visa-if required-etc.) so that your arrival in Colombia is done in the quietest way possible.
  • Remember to issue your travel insurance before you get to the city.
  • If you go to Bogotá in a process of in Vitro fertilization or IVF, you must stay in the capital for a minimum of 17-18 days.  Talk to your doctor about how long you should stay in the city.
  • Bogotá has a very complete public transport network, which includes a bus or collective system called Transmilenio. You can approach the employees of the hotel where you stay and ask them how you can mobilize in a safe way by the capital. You can also transport through taxis, Cabify, Uber, etc.
  • Remember not to withdraw high sums of money from ATMs in the city that are in unsafe places.  If you still need cash, ask for police help to avoid theft and other inconvenience.
  • In most places open to the public (shopping malls, cafes, shops, cinemas) receive international credit cards. Therefore, avoid carrying cash because with the use of the cards is enough.
  • Remember to change your money in safe exchange houses. You can use Western Union, Easy Money and other trusted places.
  • The climate of the city is cold-temperate, with average temperatures of 14 degrees Celsius that can go down in the evenings and at some times of the year. Therefore, it is advisable to wear clothes such as coats, jackets, jumpers, etc.
  • Some places of the city have free WIFI service, but it does not happen in a general way.  Before you travel, check with your phone company how to use your cell phone in Colombia.

If you need to travel to Medellin or Rionegro for your next fertility treatment, we suggest the following recommendations:Medellín has two airports: Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport (located in the west of the city) and the airport  Internacional José María Córdova, in Rionegro (located approximately 50 minutes from Medellín). Keep in mind this information to schedule your trips to and from the airport and avoid delays.

  • To explore the city, we recommend the use of the Metro system and its integrated transport routes. You can also use Uber, taxis, Cabify, etc.
  • Remember to issue your travel insurance before you arrive in the country.
  • The city has a climate that oscillates between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius and, therefore, the use of comfortable clothes such as jeans, cotton clothes, tennis, etc., will make your stay in Medellin more enjoyable.  
  • The area where the centers of Inser (El Poblado neighborhood) is located is also one of the main hotel areas in Medellin. We recommend you to stay in a hotel near the clinic to facilitate your travel.
  • If you need to change dollars, we recommend you go to recognized exchange houses, such as Western Union or Easy Money. Remember to also withdraw your money in safe areas to avoid theft and other mishaps.

  • For high complexity fertility treatments, remember that your minimum stay in the city is two weeks. Ask your doctor for how many days you should stay in Medellin.
  • The Rionegro de Inser center is located in eastern Antioquia and is approximately 50 minutes from Medellín. Therefore, if you must visit this site continuously, it is advisable to stay in hotels near it to avoid long trips. In the area you can find quality stays that will facilitate your trip to Medellin-in the so-called “peak hours” (between 7 and 9 am and between 5 and 7 pm) the traffic of Medellín and its metropolitan area is usually dense. Schedule your exits in advance to avoid delays.

Pereira

Pereira is an intermediate city located in the center of the country. It belongs to the Colombian so-called “coffee axis” and is known for its beautiful landscapes and good gastronomy.

  • Pereira has international airport and therefore it is possible to find direct flights to that city from other Latin American countries. If it is not possible, it is advisable to take flights from Bogota or Cali.
  • The climate of Pereira is temperate and oscillates between 15 and 25 degrees . It is recommended to wear warm clothes in the evenings, as the temperature tends to decrease.
  • Remember to take your papers in order to avoid any mistimes when you arrive in the country. This includes identity card, passport, visa (if required), among others.
  • Pereira has a massive transportation system called Megabús with which you can travel the city in an agile and comfortable way. Also, we suggest the use of public taxis, Uber, Easy Taxi, among others.
  • It is important to remember not to change your money in unauthorized places. It uses authorized exchange houses in the city.

  • The new centers of Inser will be located in one of the most emblematic cities of Colombia: Cartagena de Indias. There, people will not only have a seat with the quality standards used in the other clinics that exist throughout the country, but with a city that is worth knowing for its cultural environment and its pleasant beaches.
  • Cartagena is a coastal city to the north of Colombia that counts, in addition to modern hotels and shopping centers, with a historical center that will show you much of the history of the country’s independence.
  • Cartagena has an international airport at your disposal, so it is possible to find direct flights to the city from some countries such as Panama and Venezuela and some cities of the United States.  It is also possible to reach Cartagena by making stopovers from Colombian cities such as Bogotá and Medellín.

  • It is very important to know that Cartagena is a city with very hot and humid climates, which usually go from 30 degrees Celsius. That’s why it’s important to wear fresh clothes to have a comfortable stay in the city.

  • Having a difficult climate to tolerate for many people, it is recommended to drink enough water and take care of the skin of the daily contact with the sun.
  • The sites that we recommend you to visit in Cartagena in your spare time are: The Castle of San Felipe, the Cerro de la Popa, the historic center of Cartagena and the beaches of Barú, Castillogrande, Bocagrande and the islands of Rosario.
